Dakar: Nani Roma captures victory in Stage 8

Monday's stage of the Dakar rally raid took the competitors from Copiapo to Antofagasta in Chile.

Spaniard driver Nani Roma just posted the best time, finishing the stage in 4h25m44 in his MINI.

Roma beat Robby Gordon and his Hummer by just 5 seconds at the end of the 477-kilometre special stage.

Poland's Krzysztof Holowczyc (MINI) arrived home in third place, 2m04 back. Frenchman Stephane Peterhansel (MINI) had to settle for fourth, 5m38 behind his teammate.

Despite his problems at the start of the stage, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Hummer) produced a fine performance to finish fifth, 8m09 down to Roma.

Stephane Peterhansel remains first overall, 7m36 ahead of Robby Gordon, who has a slim 12-second margin over Holowczyc. Nani Roma appears in fourth place, just 12m27 behind Peterhansel. On the other hand, Nasser Al-Attiyah – Gordon's teammate - has lost 45m25 to Peterhansel so far.
