A new supercar is reportedly being built right now… in Canada! We’re not talking about the Plethore but rather a different machine which Britain’s CAR magazine unveiled yesterday – as a 1:4 scale model.

Developed by De Macross Motors Corporation (which we were unable to locate), the aptly-named 2011 De Macross GT1 is a high-performance two-seater with gullwing doors and lines that suggest legendary cars like the Porsche GT1.

The chassis is made from carbon fibre and aluminum, while the suspension uses know-how garnered from Multimatic's F1 dampers; the inboard Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spooling Valve is claimed to have "a novel active ride height control system."

Powering the De Macross GT1 is a mid-mounted supercharged 5.4-litre V8 sourced from American company Roush Yates Racing Engines, which also makes powerplants for Ford's Nascar vehicles. Performance figures remain a secret.

The fledgling company is said to be headed by South Korean businessman Jahong Hur, 39. He’s the founder and president of H-Plus Group, which specializes in soil decontamination, water supply and alternative energy production, including hydrogen. Hur also serves as chairman of Power Air Corporation, a company based in Coquitlam, BC, working on zinc-air fuel cell development. H-Plus Group will market these fuel cells in Asia once they reach full maturity.

According to CAR, the first full-scale GT1 is due to be completed in November, with testing to follow. First orders will be taken sometime in 2011 and DMMC plans on selling around 200 cars at most. That would likely mean a six-figure price.

Maybe the future even holds a green powertrain for the GT1, who knows? Stay tuned!
