It seems as though 2007 is going to be a fantastic year for in-car electronics. As carmakers add all-in-one units to handle navigation, entertainment, phone calls and even vehicle settings, it was only a matter of time before files began to be transferred from ones PC to their car.
Addressing a growing consumer demand for data exchange with ones ride, Delphi yesterday introduced a USB connector port which will act as an interface between the vehicle and various consumer electronics. The introduction represents the first high-volume application of such a technology in Europe.
The USB port is fitted to the glovebox or dashboard and allows drivers to download music files from a pen-drive into the cars entertainment system. In the future, the system may utilize multiple ports for further audio / video or GPS applications.
"Delphi is focused on bringing new technologies that will create a competitive advantage for our customers" said Majdi Abulaban, who works as a product director for the company. "High-tech features such as Delphi's USB consumer port represent the level of convenience and personalization car buyers are looking for in their next vehicle."
Simple installation, ease of use, customization and reliability are all important facets of the product. The parts manufacturer also says that the price is very competitive.
