Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 322,000 Dodge Charger sedans from 2011-2014 because the side-curtain airbags can deploy if someone slams the doors – seriously. The automaker will also recall two million Ram trucks from 2013-2015 apparently for a similar issue, Auto Evolution reports.
What’s the problem, exactly? It seems the airbag module is too sensitive, so a shock like slamming the door can result in airbag deployment. Furthermore, the seat belt pretensioners can engage.
Three potentially related injuries – all deemed minor – have been identified so far, but no accidents or serious injuries. Affected owners will soon be contacted by FCA with service instructions. In the meantime, they are advised to "exercise caution when closing doors."
