The 2010 of the Castrol Driftmania Canadian Championship -- Canada’s only professional drifting series -- began on Sunday at Autodrome St. Eustache near Montreal.
Most drivers spent last winter preparing their cars for a new and exciting season of drifting.
Driftmania Canadian Championship consists of two different divisions, Eastern & Western. Each division has two separate and distinct championships; the Pro and ProAm series. ProAm is open to all new comers and advanced drifters in order to practice and gain the experience needed to move up to the Pro series, while being trained by the same judges as the Pro Series.
It was a little cloudy when an estimated crowd of over 5,000 spectators gathered at the Autodrome for a sensational show of smoking tires!
After the free practice and the qualifying sessions, Bradley Carlton captured the best score overall with a 94.9, just ahead of Pat Cyr and Marc Landreville.
Unfortunately for Fred "Steady" Girard, the 2007 winner and 2008 series DMCC, his first qualifying pass resulted in a contact with the wall and the car had to be towed back to the paddock area.
The top 16 drivers then started the tandem competition and eventually the top 8 competitors headed toward the big finale.
The fight between Matt and Marc Landreville Waldin was very close and exciting, but when the smoke has settled, it was finally Marc Landreville with his pink Nissan S14 who had prevailed, taking victory.
