Audi's Mattias Ekstrom was the fastest overall today after the two practices held on Friday on the Italian circuit of Mugello while behind him Mercedes seemed closer to the pace.
Ekstrom's best lap was set during the first 90-minute session of the day, while the majority of drivers were much closer to the pace in the second session.
Times set by Paul Di Resta and Bernd Schneider later in the day suggested that Mercedes may have find something that could prove to be useful if they want to regain some momentum. Audi's still filled most of the top places during both sessions.
Canadian Bruno Spengler ended up the day 5th and 7th respectively in both sessions but he did improve his second time by more than 0.6 seconds. Spengler will try again to score points for the 11th race in a row.
