Hi everyone!

I’m writing to you from Germany, having barely gotten back from the Netherlands after the DTM race in Zandvoort. I snapped up the chance to spend a couple of days with my friend Franziska, with whom I shared a great birthday dinner on Monday.

The month of July was quite full. After my short stay in Canada at the end of June for the Grand Prix de Montréal, and then the Norisring race where I clinched a solid second place, I headed to Hockenheim for the German Formula 1 Grand Prix to take part in a whole barrage of promotional events for Mercedes. Many guests had been invited, and I gave quite a few first joy rides on a track, something that people generally love, even though they’re a little shaken when they get out of the car!

I took the opportunity in Hockenheim to survey the Formula 1 paddocks, a month after the Montreal event, and chat with several drivers, particularly my friend Robert Kubica. I really hold Robert in high regard. We got to know each other in our karting days in the early 2000’s, and he hasn’t changed. We were also teammates with Mücke for the F3 Euroseries in 2004. In 2008, we’d met up again in Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix, where we were both giving guests their first joy rides, I in a Mercedes SLS and he in a BMW at the time, and we’d raced each other for a bit with our passengers still on board. Good times!

Tuesday after Hockenheim, I travelled to Cologne for a press conference before the Nürburgring event. A rather special press conference, as it was held in a sports university. With Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller, I got the opportunity to test new physical fitness machines that I’d never used before.

Then the Nürburgring race rolled around, the fifth event of the DTM series. It was a great weekend for me, as I clinched my second win of the season. It was the second time I dominated at that track, after a win in 2006 in the rain. I clocked the second fastest lap in qualifying and was pretty confidant before the race, knowing that I’d be starting on the inside and have a good chance of getting the hole shot.
