Helping Canadians make fuel-efficient choices
The Government of Canada took advantage of the media coverage at the Toronto Auto Show to launch two new programs for Canadians. They include in-depth testing and publishing of the safety and environmental performance of a range of emerging technologies, while helping consumers make informed, fuel-efficient choices when purchasing a vehicle.
EcoTechnology
Through this program, Transport Canada representatives will acquire advanced-technology vehicles that run on electricity, hydrogen, fuel cells, hybrid systems or other alternative energy sources. After testing these vehicles, they will showcase the new environmentally friendly technologies at various public events across the country, most notably auto shows.
ecoEnergy
This second program, also part of the government's ecoTransport strategy, particularly targets personal vehicles. It will provide information on fuel economy ratings as well as tools to help Canadians make easier, smarter choices: labels on vehicles, guides, interactive Websites, etc. The ultimate goal is to encourage consumers to buy greener products.
