From the moment we wake up in the morning - from our alarm clock, to the toaster, the metro we take, the elevators we ride and the television we watch - technology and engineering surrounds us and makes our lives what they are today. But, what really makes our daily activities possible? How do these things work? How are they made? All those questions, and many more, are answered every day inside the modernly designed walls of Montreal's École de Technologie Supérieure.

Those doors were opened wide to the public during an Open House where this specialty school proudly displayed not only its facility but also its student's accomplishments. Organized guided tours took prospective students and their families through the schools various departments such as; Aerospace, Electricity, Mechanical Engineering, Logistical Engineering, Healthcare Technologies and Software Engineering, to name a few.

What's truly fascinating about this school is its hands-on approach to learning these subjects. Where most Universities and Trade Schools rely heavily on theoretical teachings and straight lectures and text books, ETS takes learning to another level with hands on techniques and practical testing and experimentation.

Touring the school, it's not hard to see how this is possible as the facility houses some of the engineering industries most advanced tools of the trade -- from assembly-line robotics to the Coordinate Measuring Machine (a highly sophisticated device that measures 3-dimensional objects with lasers and relays the information to a computer creating a digital likeness on the screen for later reproduction) ETS has the tools available for students to not only dream big, but build big from start to finish.

And ETS doesn't stop there - students are placed in mandatory stages to help them enter the work force in their field of study. As any graduate will attest, finding a job after graduation is akin to finding a needle painted yellow, in a haystack, during a windstorm.
