Someone said that the Corvette should die!
Seriously and this person seems to be sound of mind and body... I think not! He did get the attention he wanted by writing this ridiculous story though...

As the title states, every car maker has a modern irrelevant old-school approach car that they clearly display on a mantle somewhere in the showroom, regardless of whether or not 10,000 are sold every month. This is also known as eye-candy.

Think Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 and the next Dodge Viper. These cars are so important to the North American market that Chrysler quickly realized their folly when they announced the end of the Viper. In fact, the ink on the press release had barely dried that the Viper was already making a comeback.

You'd be wrong to think that this is purely an American phenomenon. The Germans are all over this like Marlon Brando gets his hands on a family bucket of KFC chicken. How about the Mercedes SLS AMG? BMW M6? What do you think the Audi R8 is?

And then, consider the Japanese makers. Lexus LFA and Nissan GT-R set off any bells?

It's simple really: As long as a handful of people are willing to buy these excessively desirable pointless automobiles, manufacturers will build them as they serve numerous purposes. Essentially, they draw consumers into dealers, make them feel good about the brand and make the logo look damn good. That's it.

Like supermodels, we all want one but realistically can't get one. Window shopping ain't illegal.

Long live the Corvette!
