Contrary to recent media speculation, CVC is not seeking a replacement for Bernie Ecclestone and intends to retain him as President and Chief Executive of Formula One.
Bernie Ecclestone's office in London contacted Auto123.com in regards to the blog I published November 22nd.
In the blog, I suggested that former Canadian Grand Prix boss Normand Legault could replace Mr. Ecclestone in the near future.
We were contacted earlier this week by Mr. Ecclestone's London office about this, and we have been assured that Mr. Ecclestone has no plans to retire in the near future.
“Mr. Ecclestone remains firmly in charge and there is no shortlist of candidates to replace him,” Mr. Ecclestone's assistant told us.
Additionally, in a statement issued on November 27, Formula One owner CVC Capital said that “Contrary to media speculation, CVC Capital is not seeking a replacement for Mr. Ecclestone and intends to retain him as Chief Executive of Formula One.”
We, at Auto123.com, are extremely happy to have been reassured that Mr. Ecclestone will remain in his position in the future. He has done a formidable job over the last 40 years and has turned Formula One into one of the biggest and most prestigious sports franchises in the world. We are looking forward to seeing him again in Montreal during the Grand Prix of Canada next June.
