As part of its Ferrari Driver Academy, the Scuderia Ferrari offered karting youngsters, Antonio Fuoco and Alessi Santilli, 16 and 17 years old, a test day at their Fiorano track aboard Formula Abarth cars.
They eached completed a number of laps around the famous test track. Santilli even set a new record for Formula Abarth single seaters, posting a best lap of 1min13.36s.
"We try and reward talent," said Luca Baldisserri, the head of the programme, on the Ferrari website.
"We concentrate on psychological awareness while working through a project, rather than outright performance. When it comes to selection, we actually look at various parameters and with the help of psychologists, we try and see if the driver is really motivated. Our job is then to transform their will to succeed into results in the field."
