On Wednesday morning, Auto123.com had a lengthy phone conversation with former Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve currently in Europe for business.

Several rumours currently circulate in the small motorsport world with his name linked to it. Villeneuve took the opportunity to answer them.

One says that he is one of the candidates to fill the seat of the injured Felipe Massa at Ferrari.

"I have not been called by Ferrari. And I do not place any hopes in them calling me," Villeneuve firmly replied.

Then there is another rumour that indicate he is involved with the construction of a new Formula 1 circuit for a potential Grand Prix of Romania.

"That's silly. I am not involved in any manner with this project. I don't know who's behind that rumour. Let me get this clear: I am not involved in any way with no Formula 1 circuit of any kind anywhere in the world. Period," said Villeneuve to Auto123.com.

What about his negotiations to return in Formula 1 next season?

"My name is mentioned often in conversations, which is a good sign. I'm in the news more often. But I am nowhere close to a deal of any sort. Maybe BMW's withdrawal from F1 will change things a little bit," Villeneuve added.

The Canadian drove for Sauber-Petronas in 2005 and BMW-Sauber until the middle of 2006, so he's familiar with the team. What does he think of BMW quitting F1?
