Australian driver Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing set the fastest time of the first day of the third and final winter Formula 1 test at Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelone, Spain.
The first half of the day saw the cars run on wet tires as rain fell. The showers stopped during the lunch break but slick tires only started to appear with one hour to go.
Webber set the fastest time in 1m22.693 at the end of the day on a set of soft Pirelli tires.
Briton Lewis Hamilton was second quickest in the Mercedes AMG, but almost 1.7 seconds down to Webber.
Jean-Eric Vergne was third quickest in the Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso ahead of rookie Valtteri Bottas in the Williams-Renault.
Sergio Pérez, in the McLaren-Mercedes (1m26.538), ranked fifth, but was 3.8 seconds down to Webber.
Brazilian Felipe Massa in the Ferrari finished the day in 8th place, just 0.625 second faster than the Marussia-Cosworth of rookie Max Chilton.
Romain Grosjean, driving for Lotus was slowest of all, having completed 52 laps of the Spanish track. The team focussed on set-up evaluations and aero-runs.
