German driver Nick Heidfeld set the fastest time of the day at the wheel of his BMW-Sauber F1.09 in Barcelona, Spain on Day 1 of the final test session prior to the start of the season.

Heidfeld's time was 0,5 second quicker than that set by 2nd place man, Kimi Raikkonen of the Scuderia Ferrari.

Toyota's Jarno Trulli clinched a promising 3rd time ahead of the talk of the paddock, Jenson Button who drives the newly born Brawn-Mercedes BGP001.

Sébastien Bourdais set the 6th fastest time at the wheel of the new Toro Rosso STR4.

Heikki Kovalainen was a disappointing 10th - and last. The McLaren team admitted that during the lunchbreak, MP4-24 was fitted with a new front wing, floor and top body and the programme continued - on identical fuel-loads - throughout the afternoon.
