Briton Lewis Hamilton of team McLaren scored his maiden victory of the year when finishing first in Istanbul at the Grand Prix of Turkey on Sunday.
Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button, arrived home in second place ahead of red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber.
The race was decided on lap 40 when the leading Red Bulls collided when battling for the lead.
Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel were leading comfortably following the first round of pit stops, but on lap 40 Vettel tried a move past the leading car of Webber.
The Austraian declared he’d been instructed to turn his engine down to save fuel; the team’s argument is that Vettel didn’t have to because he’d saved fuel earlier, and thus had better grunt out of Turn 8.
The young German dragged past Webber on the left hand side. Unfortunately for both of them, the German's right rear tire tagged with Webber's left front.
Vettel spun across the front of Webber, suffering bad damage to his right rear tire, and the pair both ran off the track at Turn 12
The accident forced Vettel out on the spot, while Webber was able to continue before coming into the pits for a new nose.
