Fernando Alonso won Saturday a crucial pole four places ahead of his main rival for the 2010 title, Mark Webber, who confirmed not being comfortable on the Malaysian track. It was a second consecutive pole for the Spaniard.
Webber's teammate Sebastian Vettel is second despite leading Q2, followed by the two McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Vettel looked set for pole, but touched a barrier on his last lap, which cost him the tenth that was necessary to have the best of Alonso Saturday.
Felipe Massa did not run in this qualifying session due to an earlier gearbox failure. He will start from dead last spot.
Nico Hulkenberg was also victim of technical misfortune in Singapore. He will start from the 9th row after a penalty of five places for a change of engine.
It was important not to get off-track at the beginning of the session as the track was slightly humid.
Rubens Barrichello, Nico Rosberg, Robert Kubica, Michael Schumacher and Kamui Kobayashi completed the top-10 of this wualifying session in Marina Bay.
