Goodyear introduced their first radial tires a few years after Michelin. Here, Michele Alboreto in the Tyrrell during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1983.

The FIA changed the tire rules in 1998, asking them to carry four longitudinal grooves. Here the Williams FW20 of Jacques Villeneuve at the 1998 San Marino Grand Prix.

The grooved tires were mandatory in F1 from 1998 to 2008. Seen here is the latest generation of Bridgestone grooved tires fitted on Kazuki Nakajima's Williams FW30 Toyota.

The infamous slick tires were finally reintroduced in F1 in 2009.
