Fiat is taking advantage of the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 16-17, 2011) to lift the veil on the 500 Abarth, an athletic variant of the Chrysler Group’s popular subcompact car.
Powered by the new turbocharged, 1.4-litre, MultiAir 4-cylinder, the North American Fiat 500 Abarth will differ somewhat from the European model from a mechanical standpoint. The latter boasts 135 ponies and 221 lb-ft of torque.
The suspension, brakes and even the body were also tweaked in accordance with the ''small but wicked'' tradition of the now-famous Karl Abarth models of the 1960s.
Chrysler says the Fiat 500 Abarth will cater to racing fans and purists looking to get their hands on the ultimate high-performance munchkin with the blood of an exotic Italian number running through its veins.
