There's no need for explanations. Each of these cars has a little something special that makes me tingly all over. The first three I've never driven and are on my extensive bucket list to drive at one point or another. The other two are cars that I've owned and sorely miss...

Car 1 : 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI

I get chills just thinking about this car. Although the EVO V was the basis for the VI, the subtle aesthetic differences, especially up front, are what do it for me every time I look at a picture of this beauty. If you're a WRC fan, hit YouTube and just punch in Makinen's name and you'll get a sample of what he was able to accomplish with the EVO (and Subies). Same for the EVO VI. 2.0T + 4-pot + 276 hp + AWD + 6-speed = Recipe for a love affair.

Car 2 : 1987 Buick Grand National

The then Buick Regal had little or nothing going for it; a 2-door coupe for old folks. But like I said in the Show, Buick was well known for some of its past performance or muscle cars if you prefer. Think of the GTO and the famed and rare Skylark GSX. In the early stages of the turbocharged version, the Grand National made do with only 200 hp. By 1987, 245 was the magic number. With the right amount of tuning, 1,000 hp was a feasible target. And no, I'm not forgetting the GNX...

Car 3 : Land Rover Defender 90
Photo: Land Rover

The Defender is essentially the ultimate hardcore posh off-roading all-terrain conquer. The 90 stands out as it reminds me of my Suzuki Samurai days; short wheelbase, no overhangs and nothing but fun. The Land Rover-derived Bowler is a prime example of how far these machines can be pushed. For those that find the Wrangler just a tad to prehistoric, a lovely Defender 90 will fit the bill beautifully and with distinction.
