Customization goes into second gear
What would you say if your dealer offered you the possibility of acquiring a fully customizable vehicle, in terms of both appearance and performance?

According to Ford Inside News, Ford has applied for a U.S. patent for a new technology called “MyFord Select Drive” or “MyLincoln Select Drive”.

This system, similar to that used in GM’s Buick Regal GS, would permit a driver to electronically modify parameters controlling suspension and steering. With just the press of a button, a motorist could thus pick the preferred road performance setting without necessarily having to replace certain components with others – a costly exercise, to be sure.

In addition to offering various options to improve the look of its products – think of the Fiesta -, Ford will be embarking on what sounds to be a promising adventure.

One thing to bear in mind, however: the cost of the MyFord Select Drive, its complexity and the precise advantages it offers remain unknown factors that could help determine its success or failure.

It is currently not known which vehicles will be the first to incorporate the technology, or when the new system will be launched commercially.
