Since 2009, Ford offered consumers to bring their old vehicle to the nearest dealer in exchange for up to $2,000 from Ford's 'Recycle Your Ride' program and up to $300 in additional incentives from the federal government's 'Retire Your Ride' program upon purchasing a cleaner, more fuel-efficient 2010 or 2011 Ford or Lincoln model.
Now, the company claims that more than 50,000 cars will have been recycled by the time these two initiatives end on March 31st, which represent about 474,308 fewer metric tons of CO2.
The goal was to help drivers save substantial money at the pump while easing the burden on Mother Nature.
Under the program, owners of a 2003 (or older) running vehicle that had been properly registered and insured for the previous six months could get a rebate upon purchasing or leasing a new 2010 or 2011 Ford or Lincoln model – $1,000 for cars and crossovers or $2,000 for trucks and SUVs as well as all Lincoln vehicles.
While the program comes to an end, several alternatives are available to Canadians at local and provincial levels. Other car makers such as Hyundai (Clean Air Commitment) are also carrying the federal incentive for the remaining part of the month.
