Interestingly, the media seemed less with the we-are-family program, since questions from Amercians were put in English to "Bob" while the Germans all addressed their queries in German to "Dr. Schrempp," none of which seemed to faze DaimlerChrysler's co-chairmen, Mr. Eaton and Juergen, in the least.
On balance, a good outing for the company that seems to be genuinely caught up in the opportunities and challenges presented by its new structure. Watch for DaimlerChrysler to do many interesting things in the future that the companies probably wouldn't have been able to do separately, which was pretty much the point of the merger/takeover/whatever.
And expect to hear about the news from DaimlerChrysler and other automotive firms in your vehicle, since the part of this show that promised the most excitement for the most people in North America involved software.
Specifically, that would be the software associated with the multi-media developments that are going to transform your vehicle in the next few years. Lead by Delphi and the bunch of other big time firms, the automotive supplier industry is ready, willing and able to turn you car into a V8-powered phonebooth, computer or entertainment centre.
