Visitors at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas can get a sneak peek of the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt before its official launch on January 12th at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

As reported in October, the next-generation Volt will use an all-new Voltec propulsion system with extended range technology. It will be more efficient, allowing an even greater range and substantial fuel savings versus the outgoing model. GM made the battery cells larger and increased their storage capacity by 20%, but reduced their number from 288 to 192 cells. The entire battery pack is also 13kg lighter. Meanwhile, the gasoline-powered 1.4L engine/generator will be replaced with a 1.5L unit.

Look for more detailed specs, including the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's official range, to be announced next week at the NAIAS.
