Starting this week, motorists can use Google Maps to locate nearby charging stations when their electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle is in need of a boost.
According to Google, simply entering search terms like “ev charging” or “charging stations” will bring up nearby supported stations. The information provided for each location includes the business at that spot, the number and types of ports available and the charging speeds possible at that station.
As with other businesses found on Google Maps, users can leave reviews and photos as well. Links to websites providing more information about the chargers at each location are also provided.
At present, the new function is only available on Android and Apple supported smartphones. The function for desktop searches on Google Maps should be rolled out in the next few weeks. On mobile phones, Google says users need only update their Google Maps application to access the new functionality.
