Dyson Racing ALMS partners from Abu Dhabi, Oryx Racing, have decided to strike out on their own in Grand-Am racing, by fielding an Audi R8 of their own in the parallel american series.

"We drove with Dyson Racing last year in ALMS, but we wanted to do our own thing this year," commented team manager Tom Maplethorpe on Endurance-info.com.

The former ALMS pairing of Al Masaood and Steven Kane will be joined by Saeed Al Mehairi at the wheel of the Audi. All three are excited by the prospect of taking the start of their first 24-hour race together in the States.

Crew chief Will Rowden had the chance to see the R8 Grand-Am in action during earlier pre-season test venues.

He liked what he saw so much, it convinced him.

By racing in North America last year, Al Masaood and Steven Kane have cut their work out in half. Even though they've raced at Mid-Ohio, Road America and Lime Rock before, the team still has to learn the likes of the Daytona, Watkins Glen and Indianapolis.

The trio should start on-track preparation for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, in earnest January 6-8.
