11. 1968 Corvette

This year Chevrolet introduced the third generation (C3) of the Corvette. Work on this new edition had actually begun in 1964 and was inspired by the advent of mid-engine race cars. Engineers studied the possibility of going with such a configuration, but the development costs of producing components able to work with a centrally placed engine would have meant pricing the car completely out of competitive range.

12. 1968 Corvette

This version carries the “shark” nickname due to its design that calls to mind the fins of the celebrated marine predator. As well, the car took its inspiration from the Mako Shark II concept that had been unveiled in 1965, which itself was paying homage to that fearsome species of shark
