13. Chevrolet Aerovette Concept
At the tail end of the 1960s, the people at Chevrolet juggled once again with the idea of introducing a mid-engine Corvette. And once again, the plan was scrapped. However, when Ford announced it was going to sell the DeTomaso Pantera out of its Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, an Aerovette reappeared at the 1970 New York auto show. Two years later, the XP-895 project was still active, but then the oil crisis hit and blew a hole in its hull. The rotary-engine Corvette was dead… or on ice.
14. Corvette 1973
This generation of the Corvette was to last until 1982. The oil crisis of 1973 led to a considerable reduction in power under the hood of the model. While sales were still robust, the Corvette was losing some of its lustre. Today, the value of models produced between 1973 and 1982 is lower on the collectors’ market.
