TORONTO, Jan. 3 /CNW/ - Honda Canada Inc. today reported record combined sales of 165,331 by its Honda and Acura automobile divisions. Sales for calendar year 2002 are up 10.1 percent from 2001. It is Honda Canada's sixth consecutive year of record sales.

"Our record sales numbers resulted from strong sales of Honda and Acura light trucks and the all-new 2003 Honda Accord sedan and coupe, which went on sale this fall," said Kalim Ansari, Executive Vice President, Honda Canada Inc. "We are very pleased that Canadian consumers continue to value both Honda and Acura cars and light-duty trucks for their overall quality and their fun-to-drive attributes."

The company's Honda Automobile Division reported record sales of 140,098, up 12.5 percent from last year. Individual Honda vehicles reporting record sales for the year include the Honda Civic (69,973 - up 5.5 percent from 2001). "Our Civic model lineup was strengthened in 2002 with the addition of the new 3-door Civic SiR and the gasoline-electric hybrid Civic sedan," said Ansari. "We anticipate that the Civic will continue to retain its position in 2002 as the best-selling passenger car in Canada for a fifth consecutive year."

Also reporting record sales are the Honda Odyssey minivan (14,370 - up 5.0 percent from 2001) and the Honda CR-V compact sport-utility vehicle (21,245 - up 61.7 percent from 2001).

Acura, Honda Canada's luxury performance division, reported sales of 25,233 - down slightly from 2001. The Acura MDX luxury sport-utility vehicle, which is built at Honda Canada's vehicle assembly plant in Alliston, Ontario, had record sales of 4,992 - up from 25.9 over last year.
