Defeated by Audi at Le Mans, Peugeot won the Six Hours of Imola with its 908 car driven by Sébastien Bourdais and Anthony Davidson. It was the fourth round of the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
The two men, who started from pole position, won ahead of teammates Franck Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazin.
Bourdais thought he had lost the race when he suffered a puncture after a contact with a GT car. But Montagny, who inherited the lead, suffered the same problem after he went off track.
Forced to stop to changer tires, Montagny was loosing the lead back to Bourdais.
The first Audi R18 to complete the race, driven by Marcel Fässler and Timo Bernhard, finished in third place, one full lap behind the winning Peugeot, as the second R18, driven by Tom Kristensen and Alan McNish finished fourth.
In LMP2, the victory went to Greaves Motorsport’s Zytek driven by Tom Kimber Smith, Olivier Lombard and Karim Ojjeh, the class winners of the last Le Mans 24 Hours.
The AF Corse Ferrari F458 (Vilander/Melo) won in GTE Pro category, ahead of teammates Bruni and Fisichella, after the BMW M3 driven by Farfus and Muller had a one minute stop and go penalty.
