It is "a concept that blends the versatility of a luxury utility vehicle with the performance of a sports sedan," added Payne. " It combines strong, emotional styling with high levels of utility, comfort and luxury, together with the security of all-wheel drive."

While a production version of the LF-X was initially expected soon after the vehicle debuted, especially considering European rival Mercedes-Benz is moving forward with a barrage of crossovers and SUVs, one, the R-class, which would target the LF-X directly, nothing has surfaced yet.
The concept also features a 300-horsepower 4.3-litre V8 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, a stock powertrain that makes the car's viability as a production model all the more real. The LF-X also features drive-by-wire steering and a height adjustable suspension.

The LF-X features all the key attributes of a successful luxury crossover, including a stylish leather swathed interior, sufficient bright metal accents, a full load of electronic gear and a flat-folding third row seat.
"In developing the LF-X concept, our objective was to look beyond the current SUV formulas," said Payne. "We wanted to create a vehicle with powerful, emotional styling, but that also offered high levels of performance, utility, and luxury. We think the Lexus LF-X is the future of luxury sport utility vehicles."
