Starting with this year’s Indianapolis 500, the IndyCar series plans to adopt restart formation of NASCAR style in order to give some excitement during the restarts.

IndyCar series’ CEO Randy Bernard intends to discuss the new restarts with the drivers and owners on Tuesday.

Although it is bound to be a crowd pleaser, the drivers have been hearing rumblings about the new restarts for a couple months and many of them are against it, fearing that it could get a bit risky.

In addition, the restart zone on ovals will be moved up closer to the start/finish line instead of between Turns 3 and 4, another move to get the field more bunched up.

Road courses and street circuits will remain single-file restarts.

Another rule change, which should be positive with the competitors, is that pit selections will now be based on qualifying from the previous race instead of entrant points.

It is also expected that the Edmonton race, dropped from the schedule because of conflicts with the city and the promoter, will be confirmed for July 24th.

Additionally, the IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights drivers arrived in Indianapolis to physical examinations and a series of meetings.

Moreover, series officials will make up-to-date presentations regarding competition updates, the 2012 car project and the "State of INDYCAR”.

Finally, the sanctioning body of the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights, in conjunction with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, will open an office in Santa Monica, California in an effort to make further inroads into media and entertainment industries.
