Ford introduced its new green Fiesta, called the ECOnetic, at the British International Motor Show this week.

As many of you know, the new Fiesta is coming to North America soon, in at least four-door sedan and very likely, in hatchback form as well. Sadly though, no mention has been made of whether we shall see the new pride of the Fiesta range, the ECOnetic.

The newest model in the Fiesta range is powered by a highly efficient 1.6L diesel power plant and is now Britain's greenest 5 seater car with CO2 emissions of 98 g/km. It also returns an amazing fuel economy figure of 76.3 mpg.

To end up with these impressive numbers Ford lowered, and slightly tweaked the aerodynamics on the Fiesta. They also fitted new low rolling resistance tires, and even went as far as to use low friction oils throughout the vehicle.

However, perhaps the best thing about the new ECOnetic is that for all the above, the vehicle is still a very attractive looking automobile.

The new Fiesta ECOnetic will be on sale across Europe later this year and completes an initial trilogy of models in the company's European vehicle range that also includes a 139 g/km Ford Mondeo ECOnetic and a 115 g/km Ford Focus ECOnetic.

I'm sure that I am not the only one who would like to see these types of vehicles coming to Canada, but like the old saying goes, only time will tell.
