The official IndyCar Series 2009 championship began on Tuesday as more than 20 cars took to the track for the first annual testing session at the Homestead Speedway in Florida.

To no surprise, current champion Scott Dixon (Ganassi) led the way followed by Ryan Briscoe (Penske) and Dario Franchitti (Ganassi).

Mario Moraes (KV), Will Power (Penske) and Robert Doornbos (NHLR) impressed with strong performances with their new teams.

Power is racing for Team Penske as a temporary or possible long-term substitute for Helio Castroneves who is scheduled to face a lengthy trial on tax evasion charges beginning on March 2 in Miami.

In Indy Lights testing, British female driver Pippa Mann topped the speed charts for a second consecutive day at Homestead-Miami Speedway with a lap of 28.4776 second, 187.726 mph, on the 1.5-mile oval.
