The two gateway models to the brand’s lineup will make way for more very high-end EVs.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is going to end production of the Range Rover Evoque subcompact crossover and Range Rover Velar compact SUV by mid-2027. Neither model will receive a direct successor, marking a pivot away from entry-level luxury crossovers to focus on higher-margin, ultra-luxury electric vehicles.

According to a company spokesperson, assembly of both nameplates will cease mid-2027 as manufacturing facilities transition to next-generation architectures. Global sales will taper off by the end of 2027 as dealer inventories clear. While JLR did confirm to Autotrader.ca that the Velar will remain on sale in Canada through the 2027 model-year, it declined to comment on the Evoque's timeline for the Canadian market.

Dwindling options and aging platforms
The announcement comes as sales momentum for both aging nameplates continues to slow. The reduction in recent years of trim and options choices hasn’t helped; neither has the increasingly intense market competition, or the paucity of updates given the models. The second-generation Evoque, introduced for 2019, and the Velar, launched in 2017, both received mild mid-cycle refreshes in 2024 but have otherwise remained largely unchanged.

Their departures follow the discontinuation of their respective platform siblings, the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Jaguar F-Pace.

In Canada, the Evoque is currently available solely as the $66,910 CAD Hoxton Edition, while the Velar is restricted to the top-tier Autobiography trim starting at $95,610.

Moving upmarket and reorganizing the portfolio
The retirement of the Evoque and Velar leaves a substantial pricing gap in JLR’s lineup. Without these entry points, the gateway vehicles into the brand will be the Range Rover Sport ($145,000 CAD) and the full-size Land Rover Discovery ($90,000 CAD).

The move aligns with JLR’s broader restructuring around its distinct product pillars: Range Rover, Defender and Discovery. Moving forward, JLR’s Solihull plant in the UK will focus on the flagship Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, as well as the upcoming Jaguar Type 01.

Meanwhile, the void left by the entry-level Range Rovers will be addressed indirectly. The Halewood facility is set to produce an upcoming all-electric Range Rover GT, expected for the 2028 model year, alongside a new compact entry to the Defender family, which is slated to inherit the price point previously occupied by the Evoque.
