While internal corporate politics might get in the way of any such machine seeing the light of day, now
that Porsche owns 10.7 percent of VW AG, and a future LM003 - Lamborghini showed the LM003 Borneo off-road design study by SZ Design (Zagato) a few years back after all - most probably using the same Volkswagen Touareg / Audi Q7 / Porsche Cayenne architecture and componentry, the thought of something as radical as the LM002 is tantalizing. Of course, now that Porsche is an owner it might just as well make money off the back of Lamborghini sales too, and similar to the way a Lamborghini super sedan wouldn't interfere with the sale of a Bentley, it would be hard to imagine someone comparing an outrageous and no doubt much more expensive Lambo 4x4 directly to a Cayenne.
On another note, while the Bentley Continental GT and new Flying Spur have
indirectly helped to keep the Phaeton in production, Audi will also benefit from its relationship with Lamborghini by using the Gallardo as a basis for its upcoming Le Mans supercar. The new Le Mans is expected to get a variation of the Gallardo's V10 engine in top trim levels, although it will sport completely unique styling cues and, according to Audi, offer very different driving characteristics. Just how Lamborghini will benefit from this relationship is not yet known, although it is not thought that a new Audi sports car will negatively affect sales in Sant' Agata.
Now, only time will tell how Ferruccio Lamborghini's sports car firm will spend its newfound riches, but maybe the fact that it belongs to Audi instead of VW, at least directly, might mean that such products have a fighting chance of making the grade.
