After tolling the bell for the Lancer Evolution earlier this year, Mitsubishi backtracked on its controversial decision and will continue to offer the car... as a hybrid!
President Osamu Masuko confirmed that the automaker will start working on the project next year, and if everything goes as planned, it will be ready by 2015.
Mitsubishi has not even entered the early stages of development yet, but Masuko hinted that the Evo XI will switch to a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.
Combined with the S-AWC four-wheel drive system, the car is expected to deliver a 0-100km/h time of under five seconds, yet cut CO2 emissions to less than 200 g/km.
