After 164,000 units sold, the MINI Convertible has reached the end of its life cycle. A successful run saw the popular model selling the most units in Great Britain and Ireland, followed by the USA, Germany, Italy and Japan.

MINI says that twice as many people drive the convertible model in Scandinavia than in Greece- which is much warmer. Austria sees at least five times as many MINI convertible drivers as sunny Portugal as well. Statistics aside, the Mini Convertible is a car that effortlessly crosses boundaries of culture and race.

With sales goals for the model reached, the Oxford MINI plant has now ceased production of the rag-topped four-seater. The final model to roll off of the assembly line was a Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk, painted in White Silver. It was sold to an American.

"For us, this is the end of an era", said Plant Director Oliver Zipse. "It is a great joy to build a car and know exactly how much fun customers will have with it".

Due to the constant rise in demand, the British plant has reserved its manufacturing capacities for the MINI and MINI Clubman models until further notice.
