Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton had the chance to fly with the RAF stunt team, the Red Arrows, days before he raced in the British Grand Prix.

David Coulthard joined Hamilton, who finished fourth at Silverstone, for the anticipated flying lesson in Lincolnshire.

The two grands prix winners flew in a Rolls-Royce-powered Hawk T1, a 9.39 metre-long plane which boasts a top speed of 622 m/h.

"They actually let me fly the jet on the first flight; the pilot brought me into position and then gave me the controls," Hamilton revealed.

"That was intense."
