There's an independent suspension setup in the front and a self-leveling air suspension in the back, combined with standard Adaptive Variable Suspension damping that Hutchinson says gives the GX 470 "exceptional on-road smoothness."
He says that the AVS system "works to enhance ride quality by continuously tuning each wheel's shock absorber damping rate in response to road surface conditions, vehicle speed, driver steering and braking inputs, and even vertical vehicle movement."

Rear Height Control allows drivers to choose the right ride height for the situation, Hutchinson says, "providing extra clearance over challenging terrain, and lowering the vehicle for easy entry and exit."
The standard 265/65-17 tires mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels are supposed to "provide a good balance between quiet ride, responsive on-road handling and off-road capability."
Inside the GX 470, says Hutchinson, "driver and passengers are coddled with the luxurious features that are the hallmark of Lexus quality."
Standard equipment includes leather seats and trim; premium 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system with in-dash six-CD changer and steering wheel controls, automatic dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, integrated garage door opener, and much more.
A complete list of standard features, as well as pricing for the GX 470, will be announced closer to the on-sale date, says Hutchinson.
Lexus will offer an Ultra Premium Package of options for the GX 470 that includes a rear seat DVD entertainment system and a DVD-based navigation system with rear backup camera.
