British performance automaker Lotus is taking its duty to help reverse climate change seriously. The UK based company has joined up with Ecotricity, a known specialist in green energy. The goal of the partnership is to help minimize carbon emissions and lessen the environmental impact of Lotus's energy needs.

Wind power and some very innovative engineering will be behind the venture, which seeks to generate power for the Lotus manufacturing plant. Plans are still in the early stages, and Ecotricity has recently submitted a request for input from the South Norfolk District Council regarding the proposed wind park, which would be located in the middle of the test track near Wymondham. Turbines would be able to provide up to 100% of Lotus's required power, with excess sold back into the local grid.

Feasibility testing of weather conditions has already been performed at the test track, where three turbines would be installed.

Dale Vince, founder of Ecotricity, is pleased with the potential of the project. He's a firm believer that "going green" is the single best move a company can make to demonstrate a commitment to the environment. "This is an exciting project, and I'm delighted that Lotus is taking its responsibility to the environment so seriously" he says. " There are many myths about what it takes for a business to become truly green, and the Lotus wind turbine project will be an important example for other organisations."

Lotus already employs a number of energy saving strategies within it's corporation. All their vehicles are extremely lightweight and relatively powerful for their size- meaning exceptional performance without the penalty of high fuel usage. Additionally, they've conducted research into numerous hybrid technologies, natural gas powerplants, and have even created a bio-ethanol powered Exige model.

Mike Kimberley, Lotus CEO, says "Lotus is globally recognised as a pioneer in vehicle technology and is now working worldwide in environmental and green transport research. By sourcing our electricity needs for our Hethel headquarters in Norfolk from these Wind Turbines, we can contribute to reducing our corporate CO2 emissions dramatically and provide a definitive demonstration of our commitment to the environment."
