Originally developed by Lotus, the Seven has been extremely popular since 1973 when Caterham, a sports car manufacturer based in the UK, purchased the rights to continue its manufacture. Looking to explore the idea of a new roadster model which could both expand and compliment the current range of Lotus 7-derived sports cars, Diesno-art.com now presents the 'New 7' Concept.
Although styling has been updated with such features as large, matte-coloured wheels, the car preserved its retro character with classic black and white paint as well as a race-style '7' logo on the body sides.
It can be configured in many different ways to suit the needs of the owner, for example as a comfortable weekend toy or a tire-burning race car stripped down to the bare essentials and equipped with a full roll cage, racing fuel cell and integrated fire suppression system.
Motor sports enthusiasts will also love the fact that the body panels have all been designed to be easily removable – either for repair after racing or for maintenance and upgrades to the drivetrain and mechanical elements.
The Lotus New 7 could be powered by a variety of engines. However, it would be primarily designed to accommodate smaller-displacement, direct-injected, 4-cylinder engines – either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Power would be sent to the rear wheels though a manual transmission.
While the machine from Caterham will always remain an icon, the idea behind this latest concept is quite fascinating and promising!
