On December 7th, Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, personally delivered a special Mercedes-Benz M-Class to Pope Benedict XVI, continuing a tradition that started 80 years ago.
"It is an honour for Mercedes-Benz to be accompanying His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on his future journeys with our new Popemobile," said Zetsche.
Using all the advanced technologies of the current Mercedes-Benz M-Class, this latest Popemobile boasts a new interior design and significantly larger glass panels in the viewing area. The automaker also reduced the overall height of the vehicle by a few centimetres to facilitate air transport while at the same time improving the internal standing height.
This comes a few months after Renault presented the Pope with a pair of all-electric vehicles based on the Renault Kangoo Maxi Z.E. back in September.
