In our showrooms for only a few months now, the smarts always become the centre of attention. The Fortwo, available as a coupe and a convertible, is a two seater that measures 2.5 meters long. Under the cargo floor is where the tiny 0.8L turbo-diesel 3 cylinder will be found. Its output is of 40,2 hp. Sold at a price between $16,000 and $22 000, it consumes no more than 4 litres of fuel per 100 km on average, which makes it the most economical car on the Canadian market at the moment.. As for the rest of the smart family, few if any details have been made available about their coming to our side of the pond. One thing is for sure though; the roadster will not make it across.
At Mercedes, the big news concerns the 4-door coupe. With lines that are much racier than the average Mercedes, the new 2006 CLS will be launched during the course of the year. It will be available as a CLS 500 for $92,600 and as the CLS 55 AMG for $123,600. The first will be equipped with a 302 hp 5.0L V8 and the 55 AMG will get the supercharged 5.5L V8 that develops 469 hp. The AMG should be able to run 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
