Blainville, Quebec - It was a little weird seeing Schumacher and Villeneuve sitting together at a table, 13 years after the famous incident during that last race of the 1997 F1 season, when Michael tackled Jacques in order to prevent him from passing. Of course, Schumacher broke his car and Villeneuve pursued to finish 4th and win the championship.

That didn't stop Schumi from winning five more titles, for a total of seven.

Today, they've joined forces along with the CAA, the FIA Foundation and the Government of Canada to promote eSafety, or electronic safety technologies that are readily available in passenger vehicles.

But more precisely, technologies that help you avoid a crash, not those that protect in the event of one. Those technologies include:

ESC, or Electronic Stability Control

This system applies the brakes on certain wheels and cuts down engine power in order to reduce a skid during emergency manoeuvres and help the driver maintain control of the vehicle. From September 2011, all vehicles on sale in Canada must be equipped with ESC.

Blind Spot Monitoring
This system uses cameras to detect when a car is in a driver's blind spot. Visual and audible cues warn the driver that there is another vehicle in the lanes on either side.
