Yet, despite reduced marketshare during 2004, new Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) chairman and chief executive Takashi Nishioka is feeling confident about the automaker's future.
Addressing Geneva International Motor Show press, Nishioka stated that MMC plans to expand its presence in Europe by launching new models as well as continuing to develop partnerships with other automakers. Currently Mitsubishi operates joint venture projects with DaimlerChrysler AG, Volkswagen AG, and PSA Peugeot Citroen SA.
"We are very confident about the future of our company, and we will seek every opportunity to grow," Nishioka said.
Nishioka expects European sales to from 226,000 units per year, to more than 250,000.
