Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and its European unit, Mitsubishi Motors Europe B.V., are gearing up to unveil their Concept-cX at the 62nd Internationale Automobil Ausstellung, (Frankfurt International Autoshow) when it opens to the public.
The Concept cX is a new-generation compact SUV- a machine becoming increasingly popular for capability and confidence combined with a car like ride and fuel consumption. The cX is intended to realize an ideal balance between environmental concerns and everyday performance.
Two new currently-available technologies help the cX to meet this goal. The first is a clean diesel engine. At 1.8 litres displacement, the powerplant employs a variable geometry turbocharger for optimum boost control and an oxidation catalyst with particulate filter to ensure compliance with Europe's strict Euro 5 emission standards.
The second technology is a twin-clutch Sport Shift Transmission (SST) which helps deliver economical operation and the crisp shifting characteristic of a sports car.
Environmental concerns aren't solely addressed under the hood however. Inside is extensive use of trim materials constructed from Mitsubishi's Green Plastic- which is made of bamboo and other plant-based resins rather than petroleum products.
The cX promises friendly operation too, and Mitsubishi says it offers an excellent view, easy maneuverability and a variety of cargo handling options.
The Frankfurt autoshow runs September 15 to 23.
