Insiders working at BMW just revealed additional information about the next MINI, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show (March 3-13, 2011) as the ''Rocketman'' concept.
Using expertise from the BMW Megacity (i3), the car features carbon spaceframe construction. The reduced weight combined with the three-cylinder diesel engine reportedly translate into fuel consumption numbers of about 3.0 litres per 100 kilometres.
The concept is also 3.4 metres long, making it about a foot shorter than the current MINI Cooper hatchback (width and height remain unchanged) but still about 40-centimetre longer than the original.
The downsized MINI can still accommodate four people in a 3+1 configuration. The rear section features a split tailgate where the upper glass section can be opened upwards separately and the lower metal section downwards.
