Marco Simoncelli sustained unsurvivable injuries in a crash during the latest MotoGP round, held in Malaysia.
Simoncelli was fighting for fourth place with Alvaro Bautista, when he lost control of his bike. In the incident, he was struck by Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.
He was soon hospitalized, but his death was declared hours later at 4:56 pm, local time.
Simoncelli's death was a first in MotoGP action since Daijiro Katoh's fatal crash in the Japanese round of the 2003 championship.
The World Championship however, was still grieving the lost of Showa Tomizwa, last month, in Moto2 action.
The motorsport world was also still grieving Dan Wheldon's death, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, exactly a week ago.
