Riddle me this Batman...who is the only driver in the Nextel Cup chase without a dnf (did not finish) this year? The answer is coming
at the bottom of this story, but you'll have to read on first. After two races in the Chase for the Cup this year, already some chinks in the armour have started to show.
It is more like a game of musical chairs than racing. You see, in each of the ten races, you need to finish. That gives you a chair to sit on - you get stuck standing, you're done.
Let's have a look at who is already standing. Kurt Busch is trailing points leader Jimmie Johnson by 170 points, but what's worse is he's 147 behind sixth place. Last year's champ is definitely on the outside looking in.
Also, notice I
said points leader Jimmie Johnson. Last week at this time it was Tony Stewart, but an 18th place finish sent him back to fourth, some 23 points behind the leader. A telling part of Stewarts run was no points for leading a lap - remember that.
It could be argued that Dover is the hardest race to get through. Passing is tough, and if you're off just a tick, you're nowhere. Stewart is still the odds-on favourite, but you may remember a few weeks back I picked Rusty Wallace - who happens to be second right now.
Realistically, the race is currently down to six drivers. Johnson, Wallace, Newman, Martin, Stewart and Biffle. That is fairly unsafe to say as the Chase heads to Talladega this weekend. Talladega is a superspeedway, and superspeedways have one thing that most other tracks don't have - the big one.
